First Day of the 2014 FIBA World Cup

8/31/2014

A few thoughts following the first day of competition...
  • Generally speaking, the ‘haves’ blasted the ‘have-nots’
  • Spain put up a 30 point win against Iran, and it could have been more
  • Turkey did not play well in a 76-73 win over New Zealand, however, I feel the Tall Blacks’ big men did a good job
  • Greece looked good taking out Senegal. Greece is a good team but must play strong against an Argentinian team that handily defeated Puerto Rico
  • Speaking of Puerto Rico, congrats to AD Vassallo who scored 9 points and played good defense. Didn’t feel like the team as a whole showed up though
  • Slovenia upset a Boomer team from Australia, and the Dragic brothers were impressive, as usual. The Phoenix Suns have a hell of a guard
  • France failed to show up in their opening game against Brazil and lost by 2 points
  • Lithuania won a 15 point game against Mexico, but I thought Mexico played well. Lithuania needs to put the pedal to the metal the rest of the way, but today they played well enough to win
  • Be sure to tune in Sunday when the USA faces off against Turkey, 3:30pm EST
