You can describe many great men with a few summarizing sentences, and people around you will get an idea what someone is like. As a Finn, I usually need only a couple of adjectives to do so. When it comes to Buddy Mason, you will have to hear a few stories from him. Then you start getting the idea, and you will want to hear more. The funniest, craziest and sometimes scariest thing to me is that the stories in the new audio book are actually true stories. 

Buddy has helped numerous people in his life. Among them are  hundreds of former and present basketball players, including myself. It is his adventurous and loving character that has enabled him to give opportunities for so many youngsters to be better persons in their lives. 

The audio book will make you laugh. That is for sure. If you read between the lines, there may be some lessons to be learned as well. Such as, you may want to get a driver's license before you drive a tank full speed downtown....

MEET BUDDY

To say that Buddy Mason is passionate about basketball is a little like saying lungs are passionate about oxygen. In fact, Buddy is passionate about a lot of things in life --sports, animals, people -- anything he approaches, really. But basketball was his first love. In 1966, after college, Buddy founded the first of four annual North South All-Star games which brought top-tier college talent together to compete. He was an assistant coach in charge of the freshman teams at several universities during the late 60's and early 70's and handled recruiting for the programs. Since 1995, Buddy has been coaching and mentoring kids in Lynchburg, VA -- coaching summer basketball teams, directing skills camps and taking kids on college recruiting trips. Most recently, he served as head coach of the  Virginia University of Lynchburg (VUL) mens basketball team from 2011-2014, during the school's return to intercollegiate athletics after a more than fifty-year hiatus . Read full bio here.
